Despite appearances by A-list stars such as Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Robert Connick Jr. Janet Jackson, Bret Michaels, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, The Bee Gees, the reality tv show Idol has failed and lost its steam.

Idol's producers have yet to announce a replacement for Cowell, who is launching a U.S. version of his own "The X-Factor" talent show on Fox in the fall of 2011. Simon personally told Oprah that the show "does drain him” and the pressure of the show has personally taken a toll.

This 9-year-old program's viewers down 7.5 percent from 26.4 million viewers a show to 24.4 percent. 2 months ago American Idol was beaten by NBC's Winter Olympics and "Dancing With the Stars" as the "most-watched TV series" by all viewers.
